Meet Lyda!

When a terrific wind tears through the halftime show at Spirit Lake’s first home game of 1992, Lyda Lee wakes to a world shimmering with strange new light. She can suddenly see invisible colors: heat glowing, ultraviolet sparking, everything alive with energy. As her town debates harnessing that same fierce Iowa wind to power their schools, Lyda and her classmates learn that teamwork, courage, and curiosity can turn bold ideas into real change. Lyda’s New Light is an imagined story about a real place where science meets wonder, and one girl learns that hidden light can reveal the biggest truth.

Meet the Author

Kari Webb

Kari Webb is a pastor, educator, science geek and storyteller who once taught chemistry in a lab just across the street from the real Spirit Lake wind turbines. For ten years, she helped students uncover the wonder in science before serving with the Iowa STEM Initiative to spark curiosity across the state of Iowa. She writes stories where science meets spirit and imagination meets truth. Kari lives believing that the wind blows where it chooses, and we hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from or where it goes....which reminds her that new light and a new vision can change everything.
